Welcome to Our Department

The Department of English, Memari College has existed since the birth of this College in 1981. Since then the department has grown gradually and steadily adding to the value and quality of the institution. The Department offers both Honours and General Courses in Undergraduate CBCS programme and has recently introduced Certificate, Diploma, Degree and Degree with Honours under NEP. It teaches 18 Core Courses, 6 DSE, 4 SEC, 2 GE and 3 Language and Communication Courses. The faculty is an eclectic group of enthusiastic educators, serious researchers and talented authors and presently consists of three Assistant Professors and two SACT’s. With the advancement of technology and changing needs of the society, the department has successfully adapted itself to the online mode of teaching and regularly offers classes in hybrid mode. The Department is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in innovative pedagogy and methodology. It regularly organizes intellectual activities, such as seminar, conference, debate, quiz, writing competitions for student engagement. Notwithstanding the challenges of teaching English literature to students with scant resources and unflattering background, the department has managed to elicit positive response and produce admirable academic achievements. Our alumni have spread across different sectors and have done remarkably well in professional life. The department strives to inculcate analytical skills and sensibilities in addition to the communicative linguistic skills. It also works towards developing literary aptitude, critical thinking, and cultural dispositions through a curriculum composed around literary and linguistic studies. It focuses on imbuing a sense of social responsibility and respect for the heritage and community. It places great importance on the creative and socio-cultural activities alongside the intellectual ones with a view to inducing the growth of soft skills and emotional intelligence in students. It encourages the adoption of interdisciplinary and collaborative approach for a sustainable future.

Welcome to the Department of English, Memari College. From the inception of this renowned college the department has been a cornerstone of the humanities. Our department boasts of a team of qualified and experienced staff who work with admirable team spirit to bring excellence and innovation in the field of literary studies and pedagogy. Along with the traditional ‘chalk and talk’ lectures we have come to follow ICT based teaching models; we regularly offer our students smart classes, online classes. We are committed to the actualization of the potentials of our students. Our courses are designed to develop literary aptitude, critical thinking, analytical skill, cultural sensibility, social and historical awareness, communicative skills, and basic linguistic skills. Our main goal is to produce responsible and productive citizens of the society. We do not merely impart knowledge, teach skills but help cultivate moral ethical and professional values. We organize extra-curricular activities like excursions and nature-walks with the objective of honing their soft skills, like leadership qualities, management skills, team-work, inter-personal communication. Students are encouraged to participate in cultural and creative activities that provide them a space for self-expression. The department focuses on the application of the theoretical knowledge gained during the programme. Our skill enhancement courses and ability enhancement courses strive to keep up with the growing trend of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach in academia and prepare our students for a wide range of professional career.
